About this site

This site has genealogy data for over 700+ members of the Leibbrandt family and their 420+ partners, who lived or were born in South Africa, from its days as a Cape Colony to the current Republic.

Leibbrandts in South Africa are descendants of three gentlemen originally from Germany:

  • SA Flag Johann Sebastiaan (1747 - 1817) who arrived in the Cape in 1774, and two of his nephews:
  • SA Flag Johann David (1778-1845) who arrived in the Cape in 1799. Son of Johann Sebastiaan's brother: Johann Michael.
  • SA Flag Conrad Friedrich Georg (1780-1849) who arrived in the Cape in 1800. Son of Johann Sebastiaan's brother: Johann Conrad

It seems like the Leibbrandts of the day were big on the name "Johann".
