Sister to well-known Dominee William Robey Joyce. Father was Irish, mother South African. Cousin to famous William Joyce, aka "Lord Haw-Haw", who transmitted pro-Germany radio broadcasts during World War 2. Prior to marriage to Meyder, was widow of man named Roscoe with whom she had a daughter Thelma Roscoe. According to grandson Hermann: spoke both English and Afrikaans with a perfect stiff upper lip; she said her Grandfather was the "hoogeerwaarde" (venerable) Ogilvie - perhaps Cannon George Ogilvie; and claimed decendance from King Brian Boru of Ireland.

After the war worked as a blaster on the Stilfontein mine and Gariep Dam. Retired as hotelier in Petrusville.
